What Can We Expect From Big Bore?
If you read alittle bit on forums,
you'll pretty quickly run across someone using the term: "Magnumitus"
with various spellings. The context of the post usually has the
flavor that big bore pcp's are just raw, noisy, inaccurate, and
perhaps not for the serious marksman, or for mature tastes.
I beg to differ. My customers expect
far more.
I shot this today (5-02-01) while mounting
a scope on one of my 45 caliber muzzle loaders for a customer.
let's see . . . that's .915 outside
to outside . . . those are 45 caliber slugs sized to .4515 . .
. subtract . . .
That's .4635" c/c @ 50 Yards.
A fluke? . . . not when I have a drawer
full of them here in the office. They are posted all over my site.
This was shot at alittle over 400
ft. lbs.
We use the energy to reach way out
for long targets. We just start at 50 yards. Alot of the misunderstanding
regarding big bore comes from a few folks blasting away at 20
yards and not doing such a good job at that. And, we should always
yield to those trying to have a quiet outing. These rifles belong
on the rifle range (where you can outshoot the firearm's guys
. . .snicker, snicker . . . ) The sport of long range target shooting
is just getting off the ground with airguns.
Well yes, there was that Girandoni
chap in 1780 . . .
Thanks, Gary
(yes, I clicked it up and left before
I put the caps back on . . Ha ha)
