Time to change the tool bit again.
Let's go to a finishing mill.
Clear some of the chips away ...
Sneak up on the line with the finishing
mill ... you see that it's "slicing" more than creating
chips.
And the sort of cut it makes is visible
on the wall of the channel.
Must prepare the mating surfaces that
this part will meet. Here is the underside of the billet receiver.
And the billet part we're making gets
trimmed to make it flat with the bottom of the receiver when in
place. We'll mill to the scribed line. The smoke is the tool bit
cooling lubricant flashing off the hot tool. The balance is critical.
Just alittle too fast (which makes too hot) and you've ruined
the tool bit.
Yes. I sneaked in a front bevel and
some fluting lines. It would take forever to show everything.
What are the flutes for? Just to make it the rifle "go faster". ;?)
Are we there yet?
