So . . . How's it shoot?
That's 3 shots @ 100
yards in 45 Caliber
That's a perfect 1"
c/c or 1 MOA (minute of angle)
Have to show you this
but there's a story that goes with it . . .
When you cast slugs,
you sort them out before going to the range. The #2 slugs are
good to get you on paper with a new rifle, a new scope set up,
etc. They are usually pretty good, but you don't want to use them
for groups.
Well, to get started,
I blasted a few slugs out to 100 yards and made a few rough scope
adjustments. Then I picked an aim point, and fired two shots .
. . touching. The third shot (with #2 slugs) went a few inches
off to the left (a pity). Still early on in the session, I decided
to shoot the fourth #2 slug - just to see where they wanted to
group. The fourth shot went through the other double hole. So,
wouldn't that make you cry? We have an interrupted .516"
c/c group. Doesn't count but it's no fluke either. That's three
#2 slugs - same aim point - same POI - 100 yards.
Shot a few of these
. . .
That's 1.268"
c/c @ 100 yards
That's 1.279"
c/c @ 100 yards
These break your heart
. . .
I had a few of those.
Two very close - one away. That's "Bench Technique"
error. I had a messed up feed line so I couldn't use my fill regulator.
I was forced to use the worst possible bench situation. I filled
(manually with the SCUBA valve hand wheel) to a visual mark on
the gauge, for each shot. This makes you stand up, fill the rifle,
make a judgment call as to when the needle is exactly on the pressure
mark, sit back down, re-establish your rifle's position, re-establish
your own bench position, re-acquire the target, and then calm
down to duplicate your hold and aim point. That's far too much
fiddling for trophy groups.
Still, not to bad for
an old guy . . .
