Lon,
I want to thank you again for letting me shoot
your Ranger at SS4. It's a real beauty and shoots as well as it
looks.
I was totally suprised to receive a package
from the Cumberland Valley Sports League Friday which had a gold
medal in it for the Big Bore Hunting Camp. I was pleased with
the 15/20 I shot with your Ranger, much better than the 10/20
I shot with my Bandit. I'm kind of wondering if they made a mistake.
I thought someone would clean the course probably the guy that
was doing so well at the moving targets.
My nonairgunning wife enjoyed Kentucky and
is talking about going again next year, so perhaps we'll met again.
George

My pleasure George. October 10 2004, 3:05 PM
You scored a 15/20! I thought for sure I was giving you all the
poorly cast slugs.
I had a great time and I'm happy to give other people the opportunity
to enjoy my rifle. Hope to see you @ SS V.
****photo did not transfer of George
shooting his 50 caliber Q Bandit on the same range******
BTW, here's George committing blasphemy!

What was unexpected was this: When
it came time to award the medals for the tournaments at Standing
Stone 4, it was found that two people had tied for Gold on the
Big Bore Camp. In the discussion, it was mentioned that George
was the fella with the 50 caliber Quackenbush. He'd already left
the Festival to go home. We could not have a shoot-off to break
the tie. We could have simply issued the medal to the guy that
was still there.
I said the only fair thing we can do
is to issue TWO Gold Medals. Knowing full well that I'd never
hear the end of the other maker's rifle winning Gold at SS4 (you
may recall that that particular maker has devoted untold energy
to his one sided feud for the last eight years). Can't worry about
that - the only fair thing for the shooter was to issue two Golds.
And so we were happy to do so - appreciative of his attendance
and participation.
So, it came as a surprise to learn
that George - obviously familiar with his own rifle, shot 10 out
of 20 targets with it, and upon sliding in under Lon's borrowed
Barnes Ranger Magnum, he shot 15 out of 20 from the same bench
at the same targets. Turns out he'd won the second Gold with a
borrowed rifle. Who knew?
